CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK 2 ROUND UP

In mens Div 1 football the day belonged to the Celts who had 13pts to spare over Boru in a ruthless display. Ahead by 0-06 to 0-04 they turned on the heat in the second half and took Boru apart with a pacy passing game, running out easy winners 2-14 to 0-07.
The other game failed to live up to the expectations we had, following a great Patricks Cup final between the two old rivals, with Ulster grinding out a hard fought 0-10 to 0-07 win over Treacys. Missed chances were the order of the day with both sides guilty of wasteful shooting particularly in the second half. The final score was probably a fair reflection on how the game transpired. Both sides would be hoping for better performances next time out.
In the Mens'Junior Competition there were wins for Ulster, Cusacks and Young Irelands.
In senior hurling Naomh Padraig overcame Na Fianna 5-14 to 3-10, this encounter was tight at the half but Steve Barrons retirement on a second yellow shortly after the half was a key factor in deciding the outcome of this one.
Naomh Padraig beat the Rovers in Junior Hurling.
In the Ladies Senior Fog City won over Saoirse scoring 3-19 but worryingly conceding 6 goals through their own end.
Fog also came through the Junior against Saoirse.
