NEW RULES OF FOOTBALL 2014 SEASON!!!!!!

NEW RULES OF FOOTBALL 2014 SEASON!!!!!!

The GAA launched its Training Programme to inform and educate players, referees managers, supporters and members about the new Rules of Football which come into effect on January 1 next.
These include the introduction of the new black card and the introduction of the advantage rule amongst others.

The extensive Training Programme as presented to the national media involves:

1. Video/DVD

2. E-Learning Course

3. Presentation to Referees

4. Handout for Refs

Over the next six weeks, eleven specially trained Referee Tutors will deliver the Training course to football referees in each of the 32 counties, as well as Britain, with all the various resources available to all other International Units.
Central Council recently decided that it is compulsory for all referees to attend the Training Course to be eligible to referee in 2014.

The E-Learning Course and specially commissioned Educational Video are available on www.gaa.ie/ rules and it is hoped that players, administrators, team mangers, referees and supporters would view these resources which are available to all.
All referees and clubs will receive a copy of the DVD over the coming weeks.
Today’s information briefing for the media was attended by Uachtarán Chumann Lúthchleas Gael Liam Ó Néill; Pat McEnaney, Chairperson of the National Referees Committee and Patrick Doherty, National Match Officials Manager.

Click here for a detailed look at some of the new rules and here for some frequently asked questions, which should be helpful for players, officials and supporters.

NEW RULES ON MOUTHGUARDS FOR 2014 SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!

NEW RULES ON MOUTHGUARDS FOR 2014 SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!

Since January 1st 2013, it has been mandatory for players in age grades up to and including minor to wear a mouthguard in all Gaelic Football practice sessions and games.

From January 1st 2014, this rule will apply to Gaelic footballers in all age grades.

KEY POINTS

• Gaelic footballers in all age grades must wear a mouthguard from January 1st 2014

• It is the responsibility of each individual player to use a mouthguard

• A properly fitted mouthguard is the best available protective device for reducing the incidence and severity of sports-related dental injuries

• Players can be sent-off in a game for not wearing a mouthguard

• Players will not be covered under the GAA player injury scheme if they don’t comply with the mouthguard rule

• No Mouthguard? No Game!

This information has been compiled to assist GAA Clubs, players, parents, coaches and referees in complying with the provisions of the rule.

The future of the GAA in the bay area looks bright with strong showings from our Feile teams who travel to Ireland, and our underage teams regularly bringing home silverware from the CYC competition. However, it is important to note also the strong impact adult teams from the Western Division have made in North American competition of late. Keeping a strong and vibrant adult competition alive gives our underage stars something tangible to aspire to in the future.

While the Western Division has traditionally been considered a "major division" in North American play, since we opened the Treasure Island facility in 2008 the success of bay area clubs in national competitions has really highlighted the level of Gaelic Games year coming in 2013 when Western Division teams brought home three of the four senior titles from the North American County Board national nals in Cleveland.

On the local scale the GAA scene welcomed a new football club, Eire Og, in the last few seasons, while the St. Josephs Hurling club has made a comeback in the South Bay. The Western division runs both a League and Championship each year and this past year also had a great day out with a seven-a-side competition.

The "Gathering Gala" will provide a great opportunity for all Gaels young and old to come together and celebrate the communityspirit that drives the GAA at all levels and keeps our games and our heritage strong. Join us as we gather to celebrate our community and help keep it alive and thriving long into the future.

SF GAA Results from 2013 North American Finals Cleveland!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations to all our SF GAA teams who had travelled to Cleveland for the 2013 North American Championships!!!! Out of our 7 teams that travelled we brought home 3 Senior Titles!!!!!!!

2013 SNR Hurling Champions Na Fianna

2013 SNR Football Champions Ulster

2013 SNR Ladies Champions Fog City Harps

SNR Camoige SF Shamrocks were to lose out in the early rounds of their championship.

INT Ladies Football Clan Na Gael were defeated in the Final by a strong Chicago team.

JNR A Hurling SF Rovers were defeated at the Semi Final stage by Toronto. Question's were asked about the grading of the Canadian team, but this appeal was declined by the North American Board.

JNR C Football Eire Og our all American born panel, were defeated by St Jaralaths of Cleveland at the Semi Final stage. Eire Og will not be pleased with thier 1st half performance, but they can definitely say they left it all on the field in the 2nd half, only to be defeated by 2 points.

Well done to Cleveland GAA and to all their members, volunters and sponsors, on a well organized tournament. There will always be some complaints; sliotars going through the goal nets, field sizes and markings, but all in all Cleveland have raised the bar for future hosts of our North American Championships, and roll on Boston 2013!!!!!!!!!!!

SF GAA 2013 Championship, Final Round before Semi-Finals!

Hi to all SF GAA Supporters,

We are now down to the last round of our regular 2013 Championship season! Our final round games will go ahead on Saturday and Sunday of August 3rd and 4th. As we go to print we are anticipating some very interesting games. We have Game 4 of the Senior Hurling Championship this Saturday, Na Fianna lead this 5 Game Series with wins in Games 1 & 3. We expect a pulsating game 4, as Naomh Padraig look for a repeat of their Game 2 performance in order to tie up the Series! Undefeated Sean Treacys also play on Saturday against Sons of Boru, and hope to continue on wining ways.

All our Junior Hurlers will be out on Sunday August 4th, where St Joseph's and SF Rovers are setting the pace with 3 wins each and a draw. Their head to head matches (x2) have resulted in a Draw and a win for Rovers. It is great to see so many competitive games at both Senior and Junior Hurling in the Bay Area. Our defending Senior Champions Ulster will play Cusack’s on Sunday, Ulster has 3 wins already this season with their only loss against Treacy's. Ulster is hoping to keep the pressure on Treacy's by securing another win. However Cusack’s who have won their last two outings, will be hoping to find win number 3 for their season. So far in the Championship Treacy’s have 4 wins, Ulster 3, the Cusack’s and YI/SB have 2 wins, and Boru have 1 win. The race for the Senior Football Championship is still alive, with a lot of clubs hoping that current form will stand to them, when they enter the Semi Final and Final weekends.

Our Semi-Finals and Finals will be held on the weekends of August 11th and 17th. Hopefully you can come out and join us for some exciting games as we come to the end of our 2013 season

If you wish to keep up to date with all that is happening with the SF GAA, please view our website at www.SanFranciscogaa.com and also you can friend us on Facebook.
