TREACYS TAKE SENIOR CROWN

SEAN TREACYS 2-11 ULSTER 1-06

Treacys avenged their defeat in last years decider with a blistering second half performance to which a favored Ulster had no answers. The seasons biggest crowd by far flocked to Treasure Island to see these great rivals battle it out for the fourth successive year with both stands awash with Red and Black and Gold. The atmosphere was decidedly more upbeat in the Ulster section throughout the first half as they dominated Treacys and jumped into a 04 - 01 lead. However an incisive Treacys attack brought about a Conor Devanney goal and Treacys looked to have settled down. The Ulster response was immediate though as they carved open the Treacys defence for a superbly taken goal from the kickout. At half time Ulster led 1-04 to 1-02 and but for some wasteful shooting and a missed goal chance might have had the game by the neck.
The introduction of Steve Barron before the half at midfield for Treacys along with the aerial dominance of Denis Corcoran was to be the rock upon which Ulster perished. Corcorans second half display made him the stand-out player on show and together with Barron they ran the game from midfield for the second 30 mins. Liam "willie" Faherty's place kicking was instrumental in edging Treacys in front and When Kieran Bergin pointed a 45 to send Treacys 3 clear the writng was on the wall. Charlo Conneally was rediscovering his early season form and an incisive run set up Diarmuid Foley for a well taken goal, which sent the Treacys fans into orbit.
From here it was a case of taking no chances to the finish. Much had been written about this team in recent weeks, a lot of it unsavoury, however on this day they did all they needed to and more to deliver a second Senior title. Ulster will be disappointed but they once again contributed to another great sporting occasion for which these 2 clubs can be proud. Referee Bertie Penney did a fine job calling a tight game and maintaining excellent control.

DIVISION 2 FINAL

ULSTER 1-08 SEAN TREACYS 0-10

The curtain raiser in the TREACYS/ULSTER doubleheader provided another fine hour of entertainment as Ulster held on to win by the slimmest of margins. It was the proverbial game of 2 halves with Ulster going in at half-time 4 pts up and but for some sharp goalkeeping by Treacys netminder John McGinley,who had a fine game, the story could have been even grimmer. However in the second half Treacys chipped away at the lead and late in the game had 3 chances on goal only to be denied by good goalkeeping and errant shooting.In the end Ulster were able to hold on for the win with Treacys left to rue missed opprtunities.

JUNIOR B FINAL

CELTS 1-09 ULSTER 0-11

In the opening game of the day the Eanna Murphy led Celts team pipped Ulster by a point in an exciting open game. The Mayoman gave a virtuoso performance landing 1-07 of his sides total over the hour in a man of the match performance. Ulsters Sean O'Neill was their best player over the hour but this win will be a big boost to the ever improving Celts set-up.

LADIES JUNIOR FINAL

CLAN NA nGAEL 3-06 FOG CITY HARPS 2-08

Ecstatic scenes greeted Clans extra time win over Fog City as they wiped the slate clean on several barren seasons. It was a highly exciting tussle with Clan being slightly stronger over the course of the game but never being able to shake a resilient Fog City. In the end a point separated the sides and Clan had booked their Chicago spot. Credit to coaches Aidan Foley and Steve Barron who have put in a big effort to turn this team around.
